I got assaulted with a broken bottle of Gin.

So get this, on Tuesday, January 31st, this one asshole stole from the liquor store I'm working at. He took 1 big bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin 1.75 L, priced at $40.99. He was wearing a jacket and went into the aisle and took the bottle and put it into his pants and quickly went out the door. At the time I was busy with a customer to not see him do anything, but saw on the camera later what his did. So I filed the police report on the theft.

Only 2 days later. Me and my co-worker were chatting it up, it was a good day so far. I was on the other side of the register while my co-worker was at cameras and register. I saw the guy that game into the store, but I didn't recognize him yet. He did seem familiar. He just wondered the store for a bit, then went for the 2 bottles of Bombay Gin 1.75 L, again. And then he attempted to moves towards the entrance. At this time my co-worker thought he was coming to the register, so he was getting it ready for the purchase, but I moved towards the door to block his way. And soon enough, he tried to force his way through me and out the door. The result was we both feel, he dropped the two bottle, one didn't break as it fell on the carpet inside, while the other fell outside and broke. The guy then reached for the handle of the broken bottle and attempted to throw it at me, but the door to the store was already closing, so the door caught the bottle instead of me, as the bottle shattered against the glass of the door, leaving a dusty/smashed impression against it.

At this time I was already in a sorta shock from everything that happened, my co-worker had called the shopping center security and saw the asshole ran for it, towards a car that was waiting for him for the theft. And it took off. Like, 20 officers responded to the call, a report was filed, everything that could be known about the event was taken down, and hopefully the HEB cameras saw something regarding the car so hopefully a licence plate could be seen.

So, that was my day today. I need a drink.

I know the perfect place for a drink.

In all seriousness, I do hope you're okay, and that the asshole gets arrested for multiple theft, and now assault with a deadly weapon. Chances are you'll never see his face again.

Considering you were assaulted with booze, I would assume a drink is the LAST thing you would want to cool down. But that's none of my business, and I'm glad you're okay. :0

Glad you're alright. I've had to deal with unruly customers, but I've never had a close call like that. You handled that better than a lot of people could.

Yeah, I've been through a lot in life to get taken out by some young punk with a hard on for Gin. Had it been a whiskey man, there wouldn't have been any promises. Ha ha~ =D

Well it really can't be assumed a person stole something, till it happens. In which you either attempt to not put yourself at risk to stop the person and have them put back what their trying to steal, or let them get away and report the incident to the police. But, shit happened. and I didn't attempt to pursue any farther than the door of my store. If I had done anymore, I would've risked losing my job for not following procedure on handling instore theft in progress.

But yeah, I actually do plan on getting a taser. I've gotten one for my mom, step sister, and step mom. So I might look into getting one myself from the usual place I do my shopping at.

Well, you're a good person for holding back, I would've jumped on him and grabbed the other bottle and brained him

There are 3 main reasons you should never do that: 1. Your life is worth more than whatever they're stealing. Getting into a fight can get deadly surprisingly fast because you're triggering the thief's defensive instincts. 2. It's not your job and your employer is not insured for you trying to do it, so you will often get fired for trying to help. 3. Even if you are in a castle doctrine state, you don't have the legal status to assault someone to protect property. You could get more jail time than the one who was stealing. In fact, if he kills you after you jump him, odds are very good he will get off of murder charges on a plea of self defense because you were the one that escalated it.

I never said I was smart. The only times I get violent are when others get violent, so I doubt he'd be able to do that. But yeah, we seriously need more tazers. Actually, question, can tazers kill people if used too much? Or are they weak enough not to at all times?

It's very rare relative to the number of taser uses, but tasers have killed several times. The number of times someone is shocked with it has some impact, but it's also a number of chances for something to go horribly wrong. It's a severe shock to the system, and not everyone's system can handle it, to begin with. It causes a lack of muscle control, which can cause secondary harm or death. One of the muscles it can interfere with is the heart, which can kill by disrupting the rhythm of the heart. It interferes with autonomic breathing in addition to causing a pain response, so repeated tasings without pause can cause breathing issues. The term "less lethal" is starting to be used for these sorts of things because anything that is used for self defense can kill, whether it's martial arts, rubber bullets, a stun gun, a baton, a taser or pepper spray.

I never understood rubber bullets to be honest. Just, why?

Rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, "Primeguard" and other less-lethal impact weapons are a sudden, sharp impact that is intended to be survivable but painful. Like the stun gun, it's only good if the person is able to react to the pain and isn't determined enough to keep coming anyway. Like a lot of these, it was a combination of good intentions and poor thinking...which still hasn't gone away. After years of seeing how it worked, they created "Primeguard", which may be the worst yet. A heavy orange ball on the front of a regular gun that catches a bullet (always a bad idea in itself) and spreads the impact with the ball so that the officer's first round is "less lethal" but subsequent rounds can be lethal as needed...with officers (correctly, despite recent ignorant criticism) trained to shoot multiple times.
